About Local Number Wiki.

A Wiki is not something that you find on the end of a candle sticki! It is actually a Hawaiian word meaning "quick" or "fast" - which is the sort of service you should receive when ordering a virtual local number – or ghost number. It is also what we aim to be if you have a question for us about anything, whether it is fax-to-email services, divert calls on busy or no answer features, voicemails or call recordings for local virtual numbers or non geographic numbers. Wiki is also an acronym for "What I Know Is" and we like to think what we know is the telecoms industry, its history, and the local numbers marketplace.

Ghost numbers have many names, such as local phone number - and are used by companies mainly to make it appear that they have a base in a particular geographic area. For example, a company may wish to operate in 20 different towns in an area, but cannot afford to have 20 different offices, each one manned with staff to answer the phone. However, they know that people prefer local companies, and so get 20 virtual local numbers, all pointing to their phone, so that people think they are phoning a local number.

This site includes some information about the history of virtual local numbers and of the telecommunications business in general in the UK, as well as some facts which we hope you will find interesting. We have aimed to put lots of snippets of facts about phones in one place, but if you have any more information that you would like to add, please use our Contact Us page.
